The Eclipse 400 is a four seat, single engine very light jet, designed by Eclipse Aviation, manufacturer of the more famous Eclipse 500.
The aircraft was designed and manufactured secretly in a very short time, and unveiled for the first time on 23 July 2007 at AirVenture under the name Eclipse Concept Jet, and was then not intended for production. It features a top-mounted Pratt & Whitney Canada PW610F turbofan and a V tail. To reduce development time and costs, the wing, the landing gear and some of the avionics were taken from the Eclipse 500.
Eclipse Aviation eventually decided in 2008 to produce the aircraft, as it was rebranded Eclipse 400. Deliveries were expected to begin in 2011. The project was canceled when Eclipse Aviation entered Chapter 11 bankruptcy on 25 November 2008. The Eclipse Concept Jet prototype is now owned by Eclipse Aerospace, who produces the Eclipse 550, an enhanced version of the Eclipse 500. The company is not intending to produce the Eclipse 400. This X-Plane model is an attempt to reproduce what the Eclipse 400 could have been if it had been produced by Eclipse Aerospace.
