It serves the activity areas of Tarbes and Lourdes but its range extends throughout the department, Béarn, south of the Gers and Comminges.
The airport is equipped to receive 1,500,000 passengers a year, it is the third airport of Occitanie after Toulouse-Blagnac and Montpellier-Méditerranée.
It has a runway 3000 meters long and 45 wide allowing it to accommodate the B747 and A380.
The airport was created in 1948 for the Morane-Saulnier aviation plant which is attached to it. The Hautes-Pyrénées CCI took the concession of the platform in 1958 and built the terminal in "hard" to accommodate the future Pope John XXIII for the centenary of the apparitions of Lourdes.
Completely rebuilt in 1999, its contemporary architecture seems to recall that of Notre-Dame-du-Rosaire basilica of Lourdes itself with "arms" of access to the basilica of the Immaculate Conception overhanging it.
The public service delegation previously granted to the ICC ceases on 1 January 2009 and the Tarbes-Lourdes-Pyrénées airport has since been managed by SEATLP SAS, an EDEIS group company.
