Gateway of French Guiana and Kourou European launch Space Center (ICAO : SOCA - IATA : CAY) Cayenne Félix Eboué int'l formerly Cayenne Rochambeau int'l was built in 1943 in 10 months by the American army who wanted to be able to reach Africa when flying there with its bombers, and was purchased by France in 1949. It is located in the commune of Matoury, 13 km (8 mi) southwest of French Guiana’s capital city of Cayenne and receive 400 000 passengers per year.The airport has one paved runway designated 08/26 which measures 3,200 by 45 metres (10,499 ft × 148 ft) The airport is equiped with VOR and ILS-CAT-II.
