Welcome to Montserrat!

Located between the islands of St Martin and St Barthelemy and Guadeloupe, Montserrat is a Caribbean island, dependent on the UK and a member of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States. Montserrat is nicknamed The Emerald Isle of the Caribbean both for its resemblance to coastal Ireland and for the Irish ancestry of many of its inhabitants.

Its outstanding feature is its volcano, La Soufrière, which is very active. Its capital, Plymouth, was destroyed, and two-thirds of the island's population were forced to leave their homes because of the volcanic eruptions that began on 18 July 1995. The eruptions continue today, but at a slower pace. Damage was limited to the south of the island, including the city of Plymouth, port facilities and its airport WH Bramble Airport.

Since the total destruction of Plymouth June 25, 1997, government buildings are located in Brades, north of the island. In this region, a new airport opened in 2005 Geralds (TRPG John A. Osborn), and a new capital is being built near Little Bay.
